Beyond WDW —› Staying Onsite Versus Offsite

I've been to Walt Disney World more times than I can count. I've stayed onsite (at a Disney Resort), and I've stayed offsite. I've tried resorts and hotels of all categories. And, I got to tell you, that there's a world of difference in staying on- versus off-site. There's a special magic in the air that you feel the entire time when you're at a Disney Resort. In contrast, the magic dissipates when you drive off the campus. An offsite hotel just isn't magical, despite some of the better hotels' attempts to maintain the illusion. So, bottom line, for me I'd rather spend the extra money and stay at a Disney Resort. If budget is an issue, I'd rather shorten my visit in order to afford a Disney Resort.

That being said, I still have my favorite offsite resorts. Marriott World Center has an excellent pool, restaurants, and friendly staff. Ditto for the Hyatt Grand Cypress (and what a cool pool!). These hotels are comparable in quality (and price I might add) to Disney's Deluxe Resorts (I'm spoiled, what can I say).

For the truly budget-conscious traveler, there's no denying that staying offsite at a budget or economy quality hotel is cheaper than any of the Disney Resorts. And for some families, this is the only way they can make their Disney dreams come true.
