Dirt Cheap Disney
If you've priced up a Disney Value Resort package for your family, and it's still over your budget, here are some suggestions for making your Disney trip affordable.

  • Utilize the services of a travel agent. Be upfront about your budget. They can tell you pretty quickly if it's possible to keep within your budget. And, in most instances, using a travel agent actually saves you money.
  • The cheapest accommodations are the economy and budget oriented hotels near Disney World. Just remember, you get what you pay for!
Drive to Orlando and save on the costs of airfare
  • If your party is 6 or more, there are a few condo-type properties near Disney World that can be more affordable than two standard hotel rooms. There are house rentals too, but in general you're talking more (and not less) money
  • Bring breakfast foods so that you eliminate at least one dining out meal per day. Breakfast suggestions include muffins, donuts, prepackaged cereal, instant oatmeal (use the coffee pot in-room to heat the water), and fruit.

Menu

  • Bring along a cooler full of sodas, fruit boxes and water to your hotel room.
  • The Parks will allow you to bring in bottled water so pre-purchase a case of bottled water (or refill at the hotel if you don't mind Florida's tap water, yuck).
  • If you are renting a car in Orlando, stop off at a grocery store to stock up on food and beverage supplies.

  • Bring in some snacks to tide you over (suggestions include fruit, fruit snacks, chips, cookies). Your bags will be searched by security at the front gate (this is the norm ever since 9/11) so don't try to get away with a seven course picnic meal in your backpack!
  • Sit-down meals within Disney are generally more expensive for dinner than lunch. So, make your main meal during the lunch hours.
  • Counter service meal pricing stays the same, so dinner is best suited for fast food.
  • Shorten your stay to fit your budget. Keep in mind, though, that Disney has structured its pricing to encourage longer stays, so you may be disappointed how little you save if you shave off one or two days.
  • Cutting Park Hopping from your Park Passes will save you $30 per day. This might make sense for shorter stays.
