Welcome to Mouse Vacations, a beginner's guide to Walt Disney World! This website is completely unofficial, and is not endorsed in any way by Disney. We are giving you our unbiased opinion of WDW. But we're also avid fans of the resort, so most everything you'll read here is glowing and positive!

This website is intended for the first time visitor to that wonderful destination in Orlando. Walt Disney World can be overwhelming, and the massive amount of stuff on the Internet can cause a mental breakdown! This website gives you all the basics you'll need to know in order to plan your very first trek to see "the Mouse."

Cindy's Top Ten Tips for Walt Disney World

  • Stay Onsite. Staying at a Disney Resort means that you're closer to all the excitement, you can use the Disney Transportation System, and you'll have that Disney Magic surrounding you 24 hours a day.
  • Arrive to the Parks early. Outsmarting the crowds takes a bit of planning. If the Parks open at 9 am, plan on being there at 845. If you are staying at a Disney Resort, take advantage of the Extra Hour system.
  • Utilize Fastpass. This system allows you to return back to some of the most popular rides within the parks with no wait, bypassing the lines. It's a tad bit confusing at the start, but once you got the swing of it, you'll love it.
  • Enjoy at least one Character Dining Experience. Young or old, everyone loves character meals! Pick out at least one that suits you, and enjoy!

  • Allow Enough Days to Truly Experience the Parks. Don't underestimate the size of these parks. To see almost everything, plan on a 7-night stay. To see a good chunk of the park (about half), plan on a 4-night stay. But heavens! Don't think you'll conquer it all in a weekend!
  • Schedule one Sit Down Meal Per Day. There's a hamburger and fries around every corner at Disney, it seems. But for just a few dollars more, you can enjoy some fantastic sit-down meals within the parks or at your resort.

  • Skip the Car Rental & Use Disney Transportation. The bus, monorail, and boat transportation system within the Disney Resort is pretty efficient, especially when you see how massive those parking lots are at the parks!
  • Go in May or September. It's true, the crowds are thinnest and the weather's the finest in May or September. Summer's can be downright steamy, and in the winter the weather is too nippy to enjoy the resort pool.
  • Use a Travel Agent. Booking your trip through a travel agent will save you time and money, definitely! A Disney Specialist is an expert on the Parks, knows the resorts, and can find the best deals for you.
  • Read up Before You Get There. Have a general sense of the park layout, and what you'd like to see before you get to the parks. If memorizing four major theme parks sounds daunting to you, then grab a park map the night before, and get a feel for the layout. Note what rides have Fastpass, so you can coordinate your Fastpasses with your in-line rides.
